“For Whom The Bell Tolls” is a production that explores the experience of feeling deeply while appearing composed, and feeling alone while surrounded by others. Through rhythm and movement, this piece becomes a space to release anger, shame, and regret.

This work aims to connect the shared lineage of three Black American art forms: Tap Dance, Breaking, and Hip Hop music. The show follows the story of a lead breaker surrounded by a tap dance ensemble that represents his past, present, and future.

“For Whom The Bell Tolls” represents untold stories and is relatable to multiple demographics. We are available for shows, workshops, and community events related to Tap Dance and Breaking.

Artistic direction and choreography by Jessee Leigh Robinson. Breaking material is in collaboration with Zakhele “Swazi” Grabowski.

“For Whom The Bell Tolls” is a recipient of a Works & Process residency for the 2026-27 season.

This work is currently being developed and, with further support through in-studio and technical residencies, will become a full-length show.

We are seeking in-studio and technical residencies to develop this project.

“For Whom The Bell Tolls” requires a space that fits 7 dancers, has a sprung wood floor, and a speaker system. We are based in NYC, so transportation and housing are necessary if the location is out of town.

For a technical residency, we need to work with a production team for lighting and sound. Additionally, there needs to be financial support for a sprung wood floor.
